MILL FINISH ALUMINIUM: Mill finish is the natural colour of aluminium before it is painted. It is cheaper than painted aluminum but just as strong and durable. An unpainted aluminium greenhouse will gradually oxidise producing fine grey powder forms on the surface of the greenhouse. This is the aluminium's natural self protection and it does not harm the greenhouse. Oxidisation occurs quicker in areas of high pollution or in coastal areas. BASE DIMENSIONS: An alternative base can be made using timber, metal, bricks or concrete. However any alternative base should be made to the same external dimensions as the base plinth. The external width of the base plinth is 1908mm and the external length is 1316mm, 1934mm, 2552mm or 3170mm. LENGTH AND WIDTH: In the SIZES & PRICES chart the first dimension listed is the width and the second dimension is the length. The width refers to the angled gable wall. All sizes quoted are the external greenhouse sizes unless stated otherwise.
HORTICULTURAL GLASS: Horticultural glass is the traditional glass for greenhouse glazing and it remains a cost effective option. Although brittle glass is also rigid and it strengthens the aluminium frame. Glass is also heavy which helps to resist wind. Horticultural glass is normally supplied in small panes up to 24" x 24". Because of this size limitation the glass panes are overlapped. TOUGHENED GLASS: Toughened glass is the best glazing material for use in greenhouses. It is around 6 times stronger than normal glass so it is less likely to break and when it does break toughened glass breaks into harmless small pieces. Toughened glass strengthens the aluminium frame and it is heavy which helps to resist wind. TWIN WALL POLYCARBONATE: Twin wall polycarbonate glazing is far stronger than the flimsy single skin polycarbonate sheeting supplied with other greenhouses. Twin wall polycarbonate is virtually unbreakable and easy to handle, so its safe for the whole family. It provides good insulation from frost and maintains a more even temperature for better plant growth. Twin wall polycarbonate also diffuses light to prevent scorching. BASE PLINTH: The base plinth makes installation much easier. It can be placed on any flat and level surface incuding soil, gravel, concrete or paving slabs. The base plinth is galvanised steel to ensure maximum strength and durability. The base plinth also includes base anchor pegs at each corner to fix the base plinth into the ground. The base anchors can also be set in concrete. If your greenhouse is sited on concrete or slabs it is advisable to fix the base plinth down. In less sheltered locations it is advisable to install the greenhouse on a concrete or paving slab base and to secure it in place with suitable fixings. VENTILATION: Additional ventilation will improve the air circulation through the greenhouse for better growing results. Automatic openers react to heat to ensure that in hot weather the window will ventilate in your absence. A low level louvred ventilator will provide a healthy air flow through the greenhouse to ensure improved growing conditions and better crops. You should consider which plants you may grow because some plants such as alpines require more ventilation than others. HEATERS: We offer a huge range of heaters and whatever your specific heating requirements we have a heater to do the job. Electric heaters normally require a standard domestic 13 amp electricity supply. Propane gas heaters require ventilation when in use. A 3kw heater provides heating for a greenhouse up to 8'x12' or frost protection for a greenhouse up to 10'x15' in normal site conditions. Heating requirements vary greatly with less heat required in a sheltered location or a lean to and more heat required in Scotland than in Southern England. Wooden greenhouses are normally cheaper to heat than aluminium greenhouses. Please scroll down to see our customer reviews about this product. Please click here to see more reviews from our customers Dear Sirs My greenhouse is built and I am very pleased with it. However I do have a couple of comments to make which may (or may not) be of interest. (a) The "braces" look to be doing a good job, however, I wanted to put a louvred panel in "on the bottom" of one of the sides. My greenhouse is 6x8 and the positioning of the braces did not therefore give me a clear section of glazing in which to position the louvred panel. The brace, in its alloted position would not fit over the frame of the louvre. Swapping the pre-drilled positions of the braces, so that the tops to slant towards the middle of the eaves, and the bottoms towards the corner posts, or making the braces slant in the same direction, would over come the need to either remove one brace altogether, or to shorten it so that it only covers one glazed section. That would look so much better, and be easier to put together! (b) The pre-drilled holes in the door track did not line up correctly with the door track support whichever way we set the door to open. We tried adjusting the whole frame, but to no avail, and had to redrill the holes in a different position. (c) The vertcal door frame supports seem to me to be rather flimsy, given that they are subject to constant use. It would be a great improvement if they were made more sturdy. I hope these comments are useful. Best wishes Maureen, Hellingly, East Sussex, BN27, Greenhouse 23, 14th March 2007 EXTRA NOTE re (a) - TO ENSURE RIGIDITY BRACES SHOULD NOT BE CUT OR SHORTENED EXTRA NOTE re (b) - AN ISOLATED PROBLEM NOT REPORTED BY ANY OTHER CUSTOMERS EXTRA NOTE re (c) - THIS COMMENT FORWARDED TO THE TECHNICAL DEPARTMENT |
